Fantasy Baseball: Late-Round Targets at Each Position for 2017

First Base: Greg Bird

Greg Bird has spent this spring mashing taters and kicking behind, but it still hasn't killed your ability to snag him late in drafts. Life's all right.

In Bird's 41 spring plate appearances, he has four home runs, six walks, and seven strikeouts (a 17.1% strikeout rate). As we saw earlier this month, those are the stats we want to look at when it comes to spring training, and Bird is crushing in all three. It's okay to get excited about this.

Perhaps most importantly, one of those dingers came off a left-handed pitcher. With Chris Carter also in the Bronx, there's an obvious assumption that Bird will sit when the opposing team throws a southpaw. But if he can prove to hold his own against lefties, then it may lead to increased volume, only bolstering his fantasy stock.

Like Martin, Bird also benefits from a tremendous situation. Roster Resource projects him to bat fifth against righties, and as a left-handed hitter at dinger-friendly Yankee Stadium, that's enough to get your bladder in a tizzy. We should be peeping Bird even if we've got first base filled, but he's exactly what we want as we look to fill things in late.
