5 Daily Fantasy Baseball Value Plays for 5/14/18
Yonder Alonso, 1B, Cleveland Indians
Price: $2,800
Drawing a juicy matchup against Tigers righty Mike Fiers, Cleveland's 5.09 implied total is Monday's highest mark.
Since the start of the 2017 season, Fiers has struggled to the tune of a .356 wOBA and 4.76 xFIP against left-handed bats. He has opened 2018 with a 4.57 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA), which is right in line with his shaky 4.52 SIERA from 2017.
Yonder Alonso hasn't been consistent to open 2018, sporting a .320 wOBA, but his .231 isolated slugging (ISO) isn't far off of his .235 ISO from 2017, showing he still has plenty of pop. He's also got a great batted-ball profile against right-handed pitching, which includes a 40.6% hard-hit rate, 11.6% soft-hit rate and 42.0% fly-ball rate. His .334 wOBA in the split is nothing special, but it is enough to make him viable against Fiers.
There's also some room for optimism, because with how well he is hitting the ball to start the year, there's also a decent chance we see his wOBA against righties climb closer to the .380 clip he posted in 2017.
