Jesse Winker is up to 232 plate appearances against right-handed pitchers in his first two seasons, and he has done some outstanding work in that sample. He has a 38.4% hard-hit and 11.6% soft-hit rate, which he has translated to a .378 wOBA. Not the kind of production we're used to seeing for someone priced this low.
He doesn't draw an especially strong matchup tonight against Pittsburgh righty Jameson Taillon, but it's not a bad matchup, either.
Taillon has a 4.09 SIERA this season (after posting a 4.24 SIERA in 2017), and he has an especially bad 5.10 xFIP against left-handed bats.
Winker hit leadoff against a righty as recently as Saturday, when he did so in both games of a twinbill, and if he's once again slotted into a juicy spot, he'll be awfully enticing at this price.
