3 Under-the-Radar MLB FanDuel Plays for 6/12/18
Caleb Ferguson, P, Los Angeles Dodgers
FanDuel Price: $5,500
Tonight's ultimate gamble may be whether you're willing to roll the dice with Caleb Ferguson, who is tied for the lowest-priced pitcher on the board. It might seem crazy at first, but the opposing Texas Rangers take a park factor hit away from batter-friendly Globe Life Park and are showing just a 3.50 implied team total, the second-lowest of the slate. The Rangers strike out 24.3% of the time against lefties, so there's some potential punchout upside here as well.
Grant it, Ferguson's major league debut against the Pittsburgh Pirates went about as poorly as possible last week, giving up 4 earned runs in just 1 1/3 innings, landing him a FanDuel score of... two points. Yes, the downside is very real, but he did show some encouraging signs over 10 starts between Double-A and Triple-A, presenting a cool 1.53 ERA with 52 strikeouts over 47 innings.
It's not for the faint of heart -- particularly on a one-pitcher website like FanDuel -- but should Ferguson hold his own, you could have a leg up on the field with the All-Star cast of sluggers you'll be able to roster with the cash savings.
