Sell Jake Arrieta

As much as I love Jake Arrieta, from a fantasy perspective, he's been one of the most frustrating players to own in fantasy baseball this year. The Philadelphia Phillies free-agent signee has been up-and-down this year, and after a disastrous outing against the Milwaukee Brewers last week, is in the midst of a downturn.

He lasted just 3.1 innings and gave up 7 runs -- 4 earned -- on 8 hits with 2 walks, 1 strikeout and 1 homer. At the end of May, Arrieta had an ERA of 2.16. In the last three starts, he's seen it balloon to 3.33. In those three June starts, he has an ERA of 7.98 and is allowing opponents to hit .322/.397/.508 with a .906 OPS.

Arrieta is going to have his ups and downs this year, mainly because he doesn't strike guys out all that much (16.2% strikeout rate is 45th out of 47 qualified NL starters). He does have the 2nd-highest ground-ball rate in the National League (56.3%), but he's not helped by having the worst defenses in the N.L. in terms of defensive runs saved (-54 DRS). He's allowed 9 unearned runs this season, which is more than any other N.L. pitcher.
