3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Players to Avoid on 6/22/18
Kris Bryant, 3B, Chicago Cubs
FanDuel Price: $4,000
Kris Bryant is a terrific hitter. We know he has power, but the most impressive thing about him is that when he came into the league as a rookie in 2015, he was striking out 30.0% of the time. Since he's cut that all the way down to 19.2% in 2017.
However, Bryant's plate discipline appears to have taken a small step back in 2018. His strikeout rate is up to 20.2%, and his walk rate has dropped from 14.3% last year to 11.3% in 2018. He's also exhibited significant platoon splits. Against left-handed pitching this year, he has an incredible 48.7% fly-ball rate and 51.3% hard-hit rate.
Against right-handed pitching, however, Bryant has just a 43.0% fly-ball rate and a 33.5% hard-hit rate. He's still putting the ball in the air regularly, but with not nearly as much authority.
He is also facing a fairly tough right-handed pitcher in Luis Castillo. While you may dismiss him as a challenge because of his 5.77 ERA, Castillo actually has a 14.0% swinging-strike rate this year, which tells us that he's a strikeout-heavy pitcher. He's been even more effective against right-handed batters, striking them out 24.7% of the time and limiting them to just a 28.4% fly-ball rate.
