Sell Zach Eflin

Philadelphia Phillies starter Zach Eflin was one of the most improved starters in baseball last month. In five June starts, the Phils' right-hander had a 1.76 ERA that was tied with Chris Sale for fifth-lowest in baseball. He threw 30.2 innings, struck out 23.3% of hitters and walked just 5.0%, with opponents hitting a mere .214 off him.

Eflin has seen remarkable improvement in a few key areas over last year. His strikeout rate has jumped from 12.5% to 24.5%, his velocity has increased from an average of 93.7 miles per hour last year to 95.1 miles per hour this year, and most importantly, hitters are making less contact against him in the strike zone. Last season, hitters made contact 90.3% of the time they swung at pitches in the strike zone thrown by Eflin, but that number has dropped to 84.3% this season.

Two offseasons ago, Eflin underwent two knee procedures, one on each leg, to ease chronic pain. He dealt with injuries in 2017 as he recovered from those knee surgeries, but this past winter, he was finally able to train normally with two pain-free knees. And while it seems clear Eflin is a better pitcher now and will continue to be pretty good, he's probably never going to have another month like he did in June.

Now might be the time to see what you can get for him.
