Mike Montgomery has answered the bell for the Chicago Cubs in a fill-in starter role. The 29-year-old southpaw chews innings admirably, logging 67 frames of 3.36-ERA ball as a starter, coaxing a customarily robust 50% grounders, and suppressing the long ball to the tune of a slim 8.8% homer-per-fly rate.

Of course, Montgomery won't move the needle in the strikeout category, with a 14.2% punchout rate that's low even by his standards. But with the middling Royals on tap in Week 19, the Cubs' lefty makes for a respectable no-frills pickup for owners in a pinch.
