Kyle Freeland may have turned in a 2.85 ERA in his 33-game sophomore campaign in 2018, but his peripherals didn't improve nearly as much as his ERA did. He still only turned in a 4.35 SIERA while his strikeout rate fell only 0.4% (to 31.6%). He also forced less soft contact (20.0%) and allowed a higher fly-ball rate (34.5%) than he did as a rookie.

He had a particularly tough time with right-handed bats, posting a 4.42 xFIP with a 32.5% hard-hit rate.

Neil Walker didn't have a good 2018 campaign of his own, with an ugly .291 wOBA, but the switch-hitter may have been suffering from some bad luck. His .257 BABIP was the lowest of his career and miles below his .302 career-average, despite the fact that his 37.9% hard-hit rate was a career-high.

He's not likely to turn things all the way around and start producing like a stud, but he looks to be priced to reflect his 2018 production, leaving him very cheap in a matchup that also might not be as bad as it seems on the surface.

First base isn't always a position with viable cheap plays, but getting one on a slate so loaded in the outfield is especially easy to like.
