Kendrys Morales, 1B, Oakland Athletics

Price: $2,600

For as much as their offense is in a good spot, the Orioles are also liabilities to give up a ton of runs to the Oakland Athletics as the O's are rolling out righty Andrew Cashner.

Cashner dealt six shutout innings in his last start, but he also got crushed for six earned runs in four innings in his first outing of the year. The last three seasons have seen him post the three worst SIERA's of his career (4.72 in 2016, 5.52 in 2017 and 5.33 in 2018), and we can expect a lot more of what we saw in the first start moving forward. Oddsmakers agree as the A's are the only non-Coors team with an implied total north of 5.00 tonight.

The switch-hitting Kendrys Morales tends to do his best work against left-handed pitching, but Cashner is bad enough that we don't need to be too concerned about splits. And Morales' recent work against right-handed pitching has been particularly good. He's coming off four consecutive years with a hard-hit rate above 36.0% in that split. That includes a 43.9% hard-hit rate with only an 11.2% soft-hit rate in 320 plate appearances in 2018, which translated to a stout .365 wOBA.

Even with a middling pitching matchup, that contact and production would put him in play at this price-point. Facing off against Cashner, he becomes a really exciting value.
