5 Daily Fantasy Baseball Value Plays for 4/16/19
Ji-Man Choi, 1B, Tampa Bay Rays
Price: $2,700
The Tampa Bay Rays show a slate-high 5.17-run implied total as they draw a juicy matchup against Baltimore Orioles righty Dylan Bundy.
Attacking Bundy in DFS is nothing new, and while he improved some with a 3.94 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) last year, his 4.19 SIERA to open 2019 is right in line with his 4.20 career average. His 33.3% hard-hit rate also matches his career average (33.6%), and he's forcing less soft contact (15.2%) and allowing a higher fly-ball rate (51.5%) than he has over his career.
Ji-Man Choi has had a weak start to the year, with a .292 wOBA. Struggling over a 59-plate-appearance sample isn't anything to be worried about, though, especially after he turned in a .367 wOBA and .242 ISO last year. He's also still sporting a 40.0% hard-hit rate and 7.5% soft-hit rate in 2019.
Particularly potent against righties, Choi has converted a 43.2% hard-hit rate into a .372 wOBA and .221 ISO in the split since the start of the 2018 season, and he shouldn't have much trouble continuing that trend against Bundy.
