4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 4/28/17

Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.

Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.

Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.

Now, let's get to the stacks. Here are the teams you should be targeting in daily fantasy baseball today.

Detroit Tigers

It's Mike Pelfrey's revenge game, y'all, and you know we need a piece of that in DFS. Because we can't physically get our fingers to click on him as a pitcher, we have no choice but to load up on his former teammates in the Detroit Tigers.

We've seen Pelfrey start only one game this year, but his 2016 performance was enough to warrant a stack. He finished with a 5.25 SIERA, 10.4% strikeout rate, and 8.5% walk rate. He did a nice job of keeping opponents on the ground and limiting hard contact, but you're constantly flirting with disaster when you allow that many base runners. Unless Pelfrey channels his inner Steve Smith -- unlikely -- this will be a reunion he'll want to forget.

If you want to do-si-do around Pelfrey's ability to get soft contact, it's best to target left-handed batters. That's also where the value lies in the Tigers' lineup. Here are their top three lefties along with their batted-ball numbers against righties the past calendar year and their position and price on FanDuel.

Victor Martinez is the guy we want here in cash. But if we're rolling out a tournament lineup, Alex Avila's relative name recognition and tight pricing is going to allow him to have minuscule ownership. While it may still be best to just roll out Martinez, we should be giving long thought to pivoting down to Avila, instead. These guys can help you afford the Tigers' big righties without limiting your pitching options.
