4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 5/9/17
Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.
Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.
Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.
Premium members can use our new stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.
Now, let's get to the stacks. As always, we will not include tonight's game at Coors Field here. You don't need us to tell you to load up on bats there, though the Chicago Cubs' right-handed batters are mighty interesting in the second half of their double header if you have the cash to spend. Here are the other teams you should be targeting in daily fantasy baseball today.
Oakland Athletics
If you're a regular reader of these stacks, you may be sick of the Oakland Athletics by now. For a team that plays in a meh park for offense, you'd expect their appearances here to be a bit more sporadic. That said, they're currently 13th in wRC+ against righties, 3rd in hard-hit rate, and 2nd in fly-ball rate. We're not avoiding that when they're entering a matchup against the high-walk Alex Meyer.
This will be Meyer's third start of the year for the Los Angeles Angels, and his first two have produced just as many strikeouts as they have walks at seven apiece. His swinging-strike rate is just 4.9%, bringing his career mark down to 7.5%. For a guy with a reputation for getting strikeouts in the minors, he sure doesn't generate many whiffs in the big leagues. In addition to the hard contact, the A's have an above-average walk rate, so they could present Meyer with some major issues.
The clear value on the A's is still -- and may always be -- Jed Lowrie, who single-handedly unleashed demons upon the Angels last night.
He's still $2,300 on FanDuel, and he's still really good. We've probably slathered enough love on Lowrie here in the past, so we'll expand our focus elsewhere.
The other big bargain on this squad is Matt Joyce, who has maintained his spot at or near the top of the order and is just $2,800. Joyce -- like Lowrie and Yonder Alonso -- has had awesome batted-ball stats against righties this year, and if we open that up to the past calendar year, Joyce has a 37.9% hard-hit rate, 12.1% soft-hit rate, and 42.2% fly-ball rate versus right-handers. Adding him to Lowrie will give you plenty of flexibility to afford Alonso and Khris Davis if you so choose.
