4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 5/26/17
Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.
Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.
Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.
Premium members can use our new stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.
Now, let's get to the stacks. As always, we will not include today's game at Coors Field in these recommendations. You likely already know that you want bats at Coors when you can afford them, and you don't need us to tell you. Here are the other teams you should be targeting in daily fantasy baseball today.
Texas Rangers
In small samples the past two years, we've seen two radically different versions of Mike Bolsinger. One got a decent number of strikeouts while allowing grotesque batted-ball data. The other is the exact opposite. Regardless of which one toes the rubber, the Texas Rangers will be a stacking candidate tonight.
We'll start with our most recent data on Bolsinger, which stems from the three starts he has made in the majors this year. He seems to have cured the batted-ball ills from last year, but it has come at the sacrifice of his plate-discipline marks. Bolsinger has exited the first three starts with a 15.8% strikeout rate and 14.5% walk rate, pushing his SIERA up to 5.65. The strikeout and walk numbers were better last year, but he allowed a whopping 41.9% hard-hit rate and 38.6% fly-ball rate. His new ground-ball ways seem legit based on his numbers in the minors, but it's hard to find a great reason to avoid Bolsinger based on the numbers we have.
Elvis Andrus has never really been the league's best DFS asset simply because he has a complete and utter lack of power. This year, though, it looks like things are trending up. He already has six home runs -- two short of tying his career high -- and all of his batted-ball data is better than it has been previously.
Batted-Ball Data | Hard-Hit Rate | Fly-Ball Rate | Ground-Ball Rate |
---|---|---|---|
Career | 23.8% | 23.8% | 54.5% |
2017 Alone | 30.7% | 32.0% | 44.4% |
Andrus is far from being a batted-ball deity, but he is at least making solid improvements all while striking out just 16.7% of the time. When you add in that he's $2,600 on FanDuel, likely to bat second, and eligible at shortstop, you can see why he'd grab our attention. Both he and Rougned Odor are great ways to fill difficult spots without blowing tons of salary.
