4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 4/13/18
Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.
Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.
Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.
Premium members can use our new stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.
Now, let's get to the stacks.
Boston Red Sox
The Boston Red Sox finished off their contentious series with the New York Yankees, and they will look to continue their assault on the baseball field against Chris Tillman of the Baltimore Orioles.
Tillman has been rough to start 2018, and his 2017 campaign wasn't much better. Over 93 innings pitched, the veteran righty was rocked for a 5.76 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA), whiffing only 14.2% of batters with an 11.5% walk rate. This also included a lot of hard contact as bats smacked him around for a 37.7% hard-hit rate and 37.0% fly-ball rate.
Even better for stacking against Tillman? There aren't any crazy platoon splits to note, so we can fire in all bats.
To start the stack, Mookie Betts ($4,500) is going straight ham on baseballs lately.
Betts rocked righties to sleep last year with a 36.1% hard-hit rate and 44.0% fly-ball rate, and he has blistered his way to a .630 slugging percentage against all pitchers so far in 2018.
Hanley Ramirez was hit on the wrist by a fastball last night, and that gives us an opportunity to roster a cheap Mitch Moreland ($2,400), who assumed Hanley's spot in the order yesterday. Moreland also enjoyed right-handed pitching with a .214 isolated power (ISO), 39.1% hard-hit rate, and 38.9% fly-ball rate a season ago.
If you can afford Andrew Benintendi ($3,900) as part of the stack, it won't be a bad idea. With the platoon advantage last year, Benintendi blasted off for a 36.6% hard-hit rate and 40.8% fly-ball rate.
To finish off the stack, peep the affordable Eduardo Nunez ($2,800). The right-handed batter split time between Yawkey Way and the San Francisco Giants in 2017, and he must have really enjoyed his time in Boston. Post-trade Nunez punished right-handers for a .231 ISO.
