4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 7/20/18
Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.
Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.
Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.
Premium members can use our new stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.
Now, let's get to the stacks.
Cleveland Indians
The Cleveland Indians get arguably tonight's best matchup, facing a weak lefty in Martin Perez, while also benefiting from temperatures exceeding 100 degrees at Globe Life Park. Perez is making just his second start since coming off the disabled list, and just look at this laundry list of peripherals: a 5.48 SIERA, 11.7% strikeout rate, 9.7% walk rate, and 43.8% hard-hit rate. Yeah, you might need to wash yourself after looking at those disgusting marks. Needless to say, the Tribe carry a 5.46 implied team total, the highest on the board.
As usual, Francisco Lindor ($4,500) and Jose Ramirez ($4,800) are your best bets, and on a night with some reasonable value at pitcher -- such as Robbie Ray ($7,600) -- it won't be difficult to construct a lineup with both. Lindor has always hit lefties well (132 wRC+), while Ramirez is producing an appealing 41.8% hard-hit rate and 41.1% fly-ball rate against southpaws.
Edwin Encarnacion ($3,600) should be back in the lineup, and is reasonably priced for his upside. He may not have noteworthy results versus lefties this season, but he's still posting a robust 44.8% hard-hit rate against them, and holds a career 130 wRC+ with the platoon advantage.
There's also plenty of value to be found in the minimum-priced bats of Brandon Guyer ($2,000) and Rajai Davis ($2,000). There's always some risk of these guys getting pulled late for a pinch-hitter, but the lefty-bashing Guyer is posting a .374 wOBA in the platoon split, while Davis brings cheap speed upside (16 stolen bases).
Of course, this being such a great spot, Cleveland stacks should be rather popular tonight, so don't be afraid to swap in the lefty bats of Michael Brantley ($3,900) or Yonder Alonso ($3,000) in large-field tournaments. They should go lower-owned, and will still get their opportunities to come through if Perez gets sent to the showers early.
