4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 8/5/19
High implied totals are in abundance on Monday's 13-game main slate, with 11 different teams cracking five implied runs. A pair of familiar teams even exceed the six-run mark, but we definitely have a variety of ways to go in tournaments tonight.
Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.
Premium members can use our stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. Now, let's get to the stacks.
Boston Red Sox
The Boston Red Sox are quickly kissing their playoff chances goodbye after getting swept by both the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays last week, and they now find themselves in the midst of an untimely eight-game losing streak. But a matchup at home with the Kansas City Royals could stop the bleeding, as the Red Sox are showing a slate-high 6.99 implied total against left-hander Mike Montgomery.
Montgomery is enduring what is easily his worst season in the big leagues, getting crushed for a 6.34 ERA and 1.77 WHIP across 38.1 innings between the Royals and Cubs. Sure, some poor luck has definitely factored in between a .352 BABIP and 25.8% homer-to-fly-ball rate -- both numbers that should regress -- but his 5.52 SIERA, 13.2% strikeout rate, and 43.0% hard-hit rate show his struggles are hardly a fluke. Arguably his strongest trait in past seasons was a strong ground-ball rate (53.6% career average), but even that's evaporated in 2019 (43.6%).
With all those wretched numbers, the Red Sox should roll against Montgomery, and it doesn't hurt that Royals' bullpen is also nothing to write home about -- they own the 11th-worst xFIP among active rosters (4.56).
The usual suspects like Mookie Betts ($4,300), J.D. Martinez ($4,200), and Xander Bogaerts ($4,100) are top choices like always against a southpaw, and we also get a slew of value righties in Sam Travis ($2,400), Christian Vazquez ($2,600), and Michael Chavis ($3,000).
The lefty-lefty matchup puts Rafael Devers ($4,300) at a slight disadvantage, but we shouldn't hesitate to use the number-two hitter against a pitcher performing so poorly, and he's still demonstrated reasonable pop in same-sided matchups this year (.175 ISO).
