3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 8/29/19
On a small six-game main slate, Coors Field should be even more popular than usual, particularly with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Colorado Rockies rolling out attackable hurlers in Trevor Williams and Chi Chi Gonzalez. We'll definitely want a piece of those teams, but the high ownership will also require us to look elsewhere in tournaments.
Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.
Premium members can use our stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.
Now, let's get to the stacks. As usual, we will not include today's game at Coors Field in these recommendations. You already know that you want bats at Coors when you can afford them, and you don't need us to tell you. Here are the other teams you should be targeting in daily fantasy baseball today.
Los Angeles Dodgers
Perhaps on a non-Coors slate, the Los Angeles Dodgers would get more attention against Merrill Kelly, but they ought to go much lower-owned compared to their Coors counterparts.
Kelly has been mediocre at best this season, entering tonight's contest with a 4.75 xFIP and 18.9% strikeout rate while allowing a 42.6% hard-hit rate and 40.7% ground-ball rate. He's giving up 1.60 home runs per nine innings and ranks in just the sixth-percentile in xSLG.
Chase Field may be no replacement for Coors, but that might not matter with this Dodgers offensive juggernaut, which comes in with the highest ISO among active rosters versus right-handed pitching (.232).
Against lefty bats, Kelly has worse underlying numbers pretty much across the board, showing a 5.03 xFIP, 16.0% strikeout rate, 46.0% hard-hit rate, and 36.2% ground-ball rate. We naturally like Cody Bellinger ($4,600) in any Dodgers stack, but this means we should load up on the likes of Joc Pederson ($3,300), Corey Seager ($3,200), and Matt Beaty ($2,800), too, all of whom are pretty affordable. Sadly, Max Muncy is expected to be out after being hit by a pitch in the wrist on Wednesday.
Of course, with Kelly being rather mediocre in same-sided matchups -- and actually allowing a higher rate of homers to that side (1.90 per nine innings) -- there's little reason to avoid LA's righty sticks like Justin Turner ($3,500), A.J. Pollock ($3,500), Will Smith ($3,400), and Chris Taylor ($2,800).
