3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Hitters to Avoid on 5/24/16

As is the case in most daily fantasy sports, finding information on players you might want to roster is a lot easier than finding players to avoid.

While you can get away with a zero from a hitter in daily fantasy, you certainly don't want to target guys whose matchups aren't enticing.

Here are three hitters you may want to lessen your exposure to or even fade altogether on Tuesday.

Jason Kipnis, 2B, Cleveland Indians

FanDuel Price: $3,700

The Indians are the next team up to try and slow down Chris Sale, and while it remains to be seen whether they can accomplish that, Jason Kipnis is looking like the most vulnerable hitter for the Indians here tonight. With a tough lefty-lefty matchup ahead of him, it's wise to lay off Kipnis.

Kipnis has a wOBA of just .270 through 55 at-bats against left-handed pitchers this season. His strikeout rate is also sky high so far this year at 32.2 percent against lefties. His career numbers aren’t much better, as his wOBA is .298 and his strikeout rate is 20.8 percent against lefties. His power goes down too, with an ISO of .103 compared to .161 in his career.

Sale, on the other hand, is making a case for the Cy Young this season, and lefties have been his main target practice. Lefties own a wOBA of only .165 against Sale this season, and they have a strikeout rate of 27.9 percent. Sale also has a walk rate of only 2.3 percent against lefties this season, and their hard hit rate off him in 2016 is just 10.3 percent. Sale has only faced 43 left-handed hitters this season, but for his career, lefties have a wOBA of only .233, and a strikeout rate above 30 percent against him.

Carlos Gonzalez, OF, Colorado Rockies

Carlos Gonzalez is going through some things against lefties. He did just break a 0-for-16 streak on Monday night with two hits, but he is still not hitting left-handed pitching well this season. He owns a wOBA of just .186 through 47 at-bats this season against left-handed pitching, and he now has to face off against David Price on Tuesday.

There is always a chance that Gonzalez gets rested for this game, but if he is in the lineup, he is a player you have to avoid tonight. He has a career strikeout rate of nearly 25 percent against lefties, and since last season, he has an average of just .189 in his last 206 at-bats against left-handed pitchers. He has only 10 extra-base hits in those 206 at-bats against lefties over the last two seasons, and with Price on the hill, don’t expect anything different tonight.

Lefties have a wOBA of .242 against Price this season, and for his career, that number is .257. Lefties have a hard hit rate of only 26.9 percent against him this year. Gonzalez may be the wrong Rockies player to target tonight, even if you're playing a tournament stack against Price in Fenway.

Asdrubal Cabrera, SS, New York Mets

FanDuel Price: $3,000

The Mets are also up against a tough matchup tonight against Stephen Strasburg and the Nationals. Asdrubal Cabrera is posting a six-game hitting streak where he has 8 hits in his last 23 at-bats. He has also drove in five runs during this recent stretch, but tonight may be the night where his hitting streak comes to an end.

Strasburg owns a wOBA against lefties of .222 this season through 108 total batters faced, which continues his solid play against lefties from last season, when he had a wOBA against them of only .255 and a strikeout rate of more than 30 percent.

Cabrera is noticeably better from the right side of the plate. For his career, Cabrera has a wOBA of .324 as a lefty against righties. This season, he is down to .314 in that category, and his hard hit rate is down below 30 percent against righties while batting left-handed. While he has been pretty safe over the last week, that may change tonight.
