Roberts: Noah Syndergaard displaying increased velocity with Dodgers
According to manager Dave Roberts, Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Noah Syndergaard has produced increased velocity during his recent bullpen sessions.
In his first season after Tommy John surgery, Syndergaard averaged 94.5 mph on his fastball velocity (per fangraphs), which stands about 3.0 mph lower than his career average (97.8 mph). If the 30-year old can retain his previous form with his fastball, expect noticeable improvement in several of Syndergaard's 2022 metrics including a below-average 9.1% swinging strike percentage and a 16.8% K-rate.
In 134.2 innings last season, Syndergaard accounted for a 4.28 expected Fielding Independent Pitching rating and 2.2 Wins Above Replacement.
