Pirates place Oneil Cruz (ankle surgery) on injured list, out 4 months
The Pittsburgh Pirates placed infielder Oneil Cruz on the 10-day injured list with a fractured left fibula and damaged syndesmosis.
Cruz is expected to miss four months after he underwent surgery on Sunday. The Pirates recalled infielder Mark Mathias from Triple-A Indianapolis in a corresponding roster move. Rodolfo Castro is expected to be the Pirates' primary shortstop while Cruz is sidelined. Mathias will start on second base and bat eighth in Monday's series opener against left-hander Framber Valdez and the Houston Astros. Ke'Bryan Hayes will cover the leadoff role.
numberFire’s models project Hayes ($2,500) for 8.4 FanDuel points on Monday. Per our MLB Heat Map, the Pirates' implied total (3.48) is fourth-lowest out of 28 active teams today.
