CJ Abrams absent Thursday afternoon for Nationals
Washington Nationals infielder CJ Abrams is not in the lineup for Thursday afternoon's series finale against left-hander Chris Sale and the Boston Red Sox.
Abrams started against a lefty on Wednesday, but the left-handed hitter will take a breather against a southpaw on Thursday afternoon. Jeter Downs will cover shortstop and hit ninth while Lane Thomas moves into the leadoff role. Joey Meneses will bat second and Keibert Ruiz will hit third, with Stone Garrett cleaning things up for the Nationals.
Per numberFire's MLB Heat Map, the Nationals' implied total is 4.10 and the game total is 9.5 on Thursday. Sale has a 4.52 ERA and 3.57 xERA this season, with a 33.9% hard-hit rate, 29.4% strikeout rate (top 87th percentile of MLB), and 5.7% walk rate (top 88th).
