Mark Vientos (wrist) out again Thursday for Mets
New York Mets infielder Mark Vientos (wrist) is not in the lineup for Thursday's series opener against right-hander Adam Wainwright and the St. Louis Cardinals.
Vientos is absent for a second straight game due to a wrist issue. Pete Alonso will play first base and Jonathan Arauz will cover the hot corner again. Dan Vogelbach will make another start as the Mets' designated hitter.
Per numberFire's MLB Heat Map, the Mets have the highest implied total on the board at 5.50 and the game total is 10.5. Wainwright is an excellent matchup for the Mets' batters. He has a 8.78 ERA and 7.79 xERA this season, with a 37.7% hard-hit rate, 11.8% strikeout rate, and 7.9% walk rate. His xERA and punchout rate are among the worst in the league for qualified pitchers in 2023.
