3 Under-the-Radar Daily Fantasy Basketball Plays for 2/27/17
Jahlil Okafor, C, Philadelphia 76ers
FanDuel Price: $5,700
Why He Will Go Overlooked:
Monday's seven-game slate is abundant with center options in all price ranges. Karl-Anthony Towns and Hassan Whiteside are there for those wanting to pay up. Myles Turner and Tristan Thompson are also mid-range possibilities with exceptional matchups, leaving no shortage of choices at the five spot.
All the negative press around Jahlil Okafor, due to the Philadelphia 76ers inability to move the second-year big man at the trade deadline, has many DFS players shying away from the Sixer, as well.
Why You Should Use Him:
In the two games since the All-Star break without Nerlens Noel or Joel Embiid blocking his way, Okafor has earned the start in the middle for Philly. He struggled against a bigger and fierce defender in Marcin Gortat (11 points in 21 minutes), but shined against an undersized New York Knicks front line, scoring a season-high 28 points with 10 rebounds and 41.5 fantasy points in just 29 minutes.
In what is projected to be one of the highest scoring games of the night, Okafor faces a Golden State Warriors squad who struggles down low, allowing the 10th-most fantasy points to opposing centers. Golden State also allows the second-most offensive rebounds in the league, with only the Knicks giving up more. In Saturday's game versus the Knicks, Okafor racked up six offensive boards.
With Noel and Ersan Ilyasova out of town and Embiid on the shelf, there will be plenty of minutes in the middle for Okafor. In the 13 games this season where Okafor has played 25 or more minutes, he is averaging 25.9 fantasy points, achieving at least 5x value on 9 occasions.
