Anthony Davis is 21 years old. Just five days after turning 21 years old, Davis dropped the most ridiculous stat line of his young, two-year career, scoring a career-high 40 points and snatching a career-high 21 rebounds in a one-point victory over the Celtics.
He rounded out the line with 3 assists, 1 steal, 3 blocks, and only 1 turnover, while shooting 14 for 22 from the floor and a perfect 12 for 12 from the stripe. This kid simply does everything (apparently he’s added a three-point shot this summer too, which is simply frightening).
On the advanced side of things, Davis posted a 73.3% true shooting percentage in this one to go along with an offensive rating (estimated points scored by the Pelicans per 100 possessions with him on the floor) of 154, both miles beyond what we consider “good”. We could marvel over just about every inch of the kid’s box score in this one, but you get the point.
Games like this might only be the tip of the iceberg for the Brow, as he looks to have the type of physical gifts and basketball IQ to stand a good chance of being the next in line after LeBron and Durant for the best player in the game.
