Galin Dragiev's Rodney Stuckey, Brett Oswalt's Marcus Smart, Bryan Mears' Alec Burks, Shae Cronin's Terrence Ross, and Mike Hurley's Jameer Nelson all qualify as "Hey, they're starting so let's see what happens" picks. Neither are a lock to have standard-league value, but there's upside in their projected minutes.
Mason Plumlee is certainly not as good as DeMarcus Cousins (despite arguments that arose to that effect this summer), but he might make for an interesting sleeper pick in fantasy drafts. If the disintegration of Kevin Garnett continues this year, Kyle Stanzel's pick here could be a big factor. For now, Plumlee's already projected as our 119th-ranked guy playing behind Garnett.
My pick: Kelly Olynyk, C - This might seem like a pick for the purposes of filling my team with Canadian content, but I was thrilled to get Olynyk here. Our projections are pretty low on him (177 overall), but BasketballMonster.com has him 95th for this season as the projected starting center for the Celtics. He's an interesting big man that can give you the usual rebounds, blocks, field goal percentage, and low turnovers, while adding decent threes and an excellent free throw percentage. Worst case, if that doesn't pan out, to the wire he'll go.
