3. Wally Szczerbiak, Miami (OH) RedHawks (1998-99)

As we know, Elton Brand won Player of the Year in 1999. Wally Szczerbiak couldn't have been far behind, though, with a fantastic season of his own. In fact, the numbers say it was better.

In 32 games and 33.8 minutes per, Szczerbiak averaged 24.2 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.9 assists for the RedHawks. He made two three-pointers per game on 35.6% from beyond the arc and a true shooting of 63%. That type of efficiency led to .385 win shares per 40 minutes and 10.4 over the course of the season.

That season, Miami went 15-3 in conference and 24-8 overall. As a 10 seed, they upset two teams before losing to Kentucky in the Sweet 16.
