FanDuel College Basketball Daily Fantasy Helper: Tuesday 2/8/22
March Madness is a ways away, but you can get into college hoops today by playing daily contests at FanDuel.
If you've played NBA DFS before, college basketball DFS is similar. You pick a total of eight players -- four guards, three forwards, and one utility spot. Stay within the $50,000 salary cap, and field the team you think will score the most fantasy points.
The scoring settings differ from NBA in the blocks and steals categories; each is worth two FanDuel points, rather than the three you get in NBA contests.
Now that you're in the know, let's attack today's main slate. All betting lines come from NCAAB odds.
Guards
Jaden Ivey, Purdue ($8,400) - Ivey has taken his game up a notch lately, going for 42.7 and 41.0 FanDuel points over his last two and playing 37 and 38 minutes in those contests. Ivey's combination of talent and workload is very enticing. The Purdue-Illinois matchup in West Lafayette has a 147.0-point total, the second-best on the slate, and Purdue's 76.5-point implied total is the slate's second-highest number. Ivey went for 35.6 FanDuel points versus Illinois in Champaign earlier this campaign.
Wendell Green Jr., Auburn ($7,000) - Green started in Auburn's last game and played 36 minutes. A 5-for-17 shooting performance kept him to 28.5 FanDuel points, but the role and usage was stellar. If Lior Berman is out again, Green is very appealing, but Green is still a fine play if he comes off the bench. As a reserve two games ago, he scored 40.6 FanDuel points in 27 minutes, totaling 23 points and 8 boards. The Tigers (74th in adjusted tempo, per KenPom) are playing up in pace against Arkansas (17th), and this game holds a slate-best 148.5 over/under with a 2.5-point spread.
Caleb Daniels, Villanova ($5,500) - Both Justin Moore ($6,500) and Collin Gillespie ($6,000) are game-time calls for Villanova. With those two sitting in the Wildcats' last game, Daniels logged 34 minutes and produced 23.5 FanDuel points. Nova is in a huge pace-up spot against St. John's. The Wildcats are 354th in adjusted tempo while the Red Storm are 5th. If one or both of Moore or Gillespie suit up, they're excellent options. If both sit, Daniels is a quality play, or you can save gobs of salary with Chris Arcidiacono ($3,200), who played 26 minutes sans Moore and Gillespie last weekend.
Alfonso Plummer, Illinois ($4,900) - I really want exposure to the Fighting Illini, because the Boilers -- who rank first in adjusted offense and 107th in adjusted defense -- are a good matchup for DFS. While you can make a case for the Illini's Trent Frazier ($6,300) or Kofi Cockburn ($8,500), Plummer is where I keep landing. He's seeing big minutes -- at least 33 in six of the last seven games -- and comes at a low salary. He got to Purdue for 27.8 FanDuel points in their previous meeting, and he's a great way to save salary on this slate.
Forwards
Oscar Tshiebwe, Kentucky ($8,700) - The slate's top implied total belongs to Kentucky (76.5) for their road game at South Carolina. Tshiebwe owns a floor/ceiling combination that's to die for. He's generated at least 36.3 FanDuel points in six consecutive outings, with a spike game of 52.9 FanDuel points in that span. He's posted a double-double in five straight games and is averaging 15.8 points and 15.2 rebounds this season.
Trayce Jackson-Davis, Indiana ($7,900) - If you don't have the salary to get to Tshiebwe, Jackson-Davis is a nice fall-back option. TJD struggled against Illinois last time out, finishing with a meager 11.7 FanDuel points, but if we remove that game, he's scored at least 29.4 FanDuel points in 12 of his past 13 games. He can get back to his productive ways in Indiana's matchup at Northwestern.
Cody Riley, UCLA ($5,300) - Riley should get a lot of minutes, and that's valuable at this salary. He played 38 in a triple-overtime game last time out and 31 in the game before that. He amassed 21.5 and 24.6 FanDuel points in those contests and has put up at least 18.1 FanDuel points in five games in a row. UCLA's matchup at Stanford has a blah 134.0-point total, which could cause the Bruins to go overlooked on this slate, but UCLA's 70.75-point implied total is a mark we can feel good about.
Marcus Bingham Jr., Michigan State ($5,200) - The opposite of Riley, Bingham has been really good in DFS from a per-minute perspective but isn't a great bet to see 20-plus minutes, a barrier he's reached only once in the last eight games -- although that one time was Michigan State's last game. He's averaging 19.9 minutes and 23.7 FanDuel points, and Bingham's 23.3% usage rate paces the team, according to Sports-Reference. He's scored at least 15.2 FanDuel points in four straight, and I like rolling the dice on him despite a tough matchup versus Wisconsin.
