5. 2002 Kansas State Wildcats

Since the turn of the century, Head Coach Bill Snyder has produced several solid Kansas State teams. But, back in 2002, he had his best team. It wasn't full of superstars nor was it a high-octane passing offense like so many of the others here.
It boiled down to just two star players and an elite defense.
Quarterback Ell Roberson only threw for 1,580 yards and seven touchdowns, but he ran for 1,032 and 16 touchdowns. In the Wildcats' option offense, Roberson was joined by an all-time college football star in Darren Sproles. On 237 rushes, Sproles ran for 1,465 yards and 17 touchdowns while also providing as a punt returner.
The problem for the Wildcats was they went just 10-2 in the regular season. So, needless to say, they didn't get the invite to the BCS title game. Instead they got an invite to the Holiday Bowl, where they defeated Arizona State 34-27.
