College Football Single-Game Daily Fantasy Helper: Wednesday 10/12/22 (Louisiana-Lafayette at Marshall)
The college football regular season rolls into Week 7 on Wednesday as the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin Cajuns square off with the Marshall Thundering Herd.
For those unfamiliar, single-game slates feature five flex spots with identical scoring to the main slate. However, there is an "MVP" roster slot. The MVP receives 1.5 times his total fantasy points, making this spot crucial.
Player Breakdowns
At The Top
Khalan Laborn, Marshall ($17,500) - Laborn has filled in admirably for the injured Rasheen Ali. The former Florida State Seminoles running back is operating as a bell cow this season. He has at least 24 rushing attempts in four straight games, and Laborn has found paydirt eight times in five games. The senior ranks fourth nationally with 731 rushing yards.
Henry Colombi, Marshall ($15,000) - Colombi has re-surfaced at Marshall after spending the last two seasons at Texas Tech. He should start at quarterback on Wednesday night despite leaving the Thundering Herd’s last game with an injury. Colombi’s stats are nothing to get excited about, but he does provide leverage at MVP off the sure-to-be-popular Laborn. Additionally, this is a decent spot for the Marshall passing game. Louisiana-Lafayette is allowing 241.8 passing yards per game, which ranks 88th nationally.
Chris Smith, Louisiana-Lafayette ($14,000) - Smith has track-star speed at the running back position for the Ragin’ Cajuns. The Ragin Cajuns love to get him the ball in a variety of ways. As a pass catcher, Smith ranks second on Louisiana-Lafayette in receptions (15) and receiving yards (107). He is averaging 5.5 yards per carry as a runner.
In The Middle
Ben Wooldridge, Louisiana-Lafayette ($13,000) - Woolridge is expected to start at quarterback with Chandler Fields sidelined. In limited action, the junior is completing nearly 65% of his pass attempts (64.9). He also possesses dual-threat upside, tallying 66 rushing yards on 13 attempts.
Corey Gammage, Marshall ($12,000) - Gammage’s opportunities have been limited this season as Marshall has leaned upon Laborn. Gammage is a big-bodied wide receiver who possesses big-play ability. He leads the Thundering Herd in targets (28), receptions (20), receiving yards (215), and touchdown receptions (3).
Michael Jefferson, Louisiana-Lafayette ($11,500) - Jefferson is WR1 for the Ragin-Cajuns. He has been targeted 37 times through five games, and several of his targets are coming down the field. He is the owner of an eye-opening 15.1 average depth of target (aDOT).
Rasheen Ali ($10,000) has been practicing over the last few weeks for Marshall. His return is unknown. If he’s back on Wednesday night, he is a viable play. Ali was extremely productive as Marshall’s lead back last season. Ali posted an absurd 1,401 rushing yards and 23 rushing touchdowns a season ago. He also tallied 46 receptions, 342 receiving yards, and one receiving touchdown. If he does play, I doubt he’d step right into a starting role.
At The Bottom
Devin Miller, Marshall ($8,500) - The tight end ranks second on the Thundering Herd in pass snaps (151) and routes run (125). Miller has 12 receptions through five games, which ranks third among Marshall pass catchers.
Neal Johnson, Louisiana-Lafayette ($7,500) - Johnson’s profile is similar to Miller's. Johnson will be on the field a ton and run several pass routes (109 pass snaps and 96 routes run this season). The junior is averaging 4.0 targets per game over the last two games.
Peter LeBlanc, Louisiana-Lafayette ($7,000) - LeBlanc is under-salaried for his anticipated role on Wednesday. Over the last two games, he has run 56 routes, which ranks second on the team behind Jefferson. LeBlanc leads the Ragin Cajuns with an aDOT of 17.6.
