Football Team plans to start Alex Smith (calf) in Week 17
The Washington Football Team plans to start Alex Smith (calf) at quarterback for their Week 17 game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Ian Rapoport reports.
Smith missed the Football Team's past two games after leaving early during their Week 14 win over the San Francisco 49ers. Backup Taylor Heinicke performed surprisingly well off the bench in relief of the recently released Dwayne Haskins, but it appears that the team is comfortable enough with Smith's health to give him the start in a crucial win-and-in game.
Smith has been having the worst statistical season of his career in 2020, but has still arguably been the most effective quarterback the Football Team has fielded so far this season. He hasn't crested 20 fantasy points in any single game so far this season, but could against an Eagles defense that has allowed opposing offenses an average of 30.25 points per game over the past four weeks.
