Austin Ekeler adds incentives, staying with Chargers
Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler will remain with the team after having $1.75 million in incentives added to his deal for the 2023 season.
Ekeler requested to be traded earlier this offseason, but he will play out his deal and become a free agent in 2024. The 28-year-old back led the NFL in touchdowns each of the past two seasons while clearing 1,500 scrimmage yards in both campaigns. He averaged 17.8 touches per game in that stretch, and with Ekeler entering the final year of his contract, the Chargers might give him even more work next season.
Ekeler led all running backs with 18.8 FanDuel points per game last season, with 204 carries for 915 yards and 13 touchdowns, plus 107 catches (127 targets) for 722 yards and 5 touchdowns.
