What It Means:

Murray suffered the devastating injury in December of the 2022 season, and while the team has not provided an exact timetable for his return, the early belief is that the quarterback will not be ready for Week 1. We'll learn more about Murray's expected return date at some point this summer, but for now it looks like the Cardinals are preparing for Colt McCoy to start the season for them.

Murray struggled in his fourth year as the Cardinals' starting quarterback, finishing the year with the lowest touchdown rate (3.6%) and adjusted yards per pass attempt (6 yards) of his career. The absence of Deandre Hopkins was apparent in the early part of the year, with Murray throwing more touchdowns in their four games together (8) than he did in the previous six games without Hopkins. Now that the team has parted ways with Hopkins, Murray could find himself without a reliable WR1 when he does eventually return for the 2023 NFL season.
