Cardinals placing Zach Ertz (quad) on injured reserve
The Arizona Cardinals are placing tight end Zach Ertz on injured reserve due to a strained quadriceps, reports Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.
Ertz suffered the injury in Sunday's loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Trey McBride, a 2022 second-round pick, will take over as the Cardinals' primary tight end while Ertz is out. They both played 35-of-66 offensive snaps (53%) last week, but Ertz was held below 25 yards for the fifth time this season. McBride and the Cardinals have a tough home test against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 8. The Ravens haven't allowed a tight end to score a touchdown all season.
Ertz is averaging only 1.13 yards per route run this season while McBride averages a robust 2.74 yards per route run. Over the last two games, McBride out-snapped Ertz 75-66 and caught 7 passes on 11 targets for 91 yards. Ertz totaled 5 catches and 41 yards on 9 targets in that same span. The Ravens are allowing the fewest FanDuel points per game to tight ends this season.
