4. Al MacInnis

The only two things Al MacInnis has in common with Coffey is that he was a defenseman and that he was really, really good. Other than that, the two careers were very unique to one another.

In contrast to the usual NHL lifers, MacInnis played for only two teams in 23 total seasons. He played for the Calgary Flames for the first 13 years and the St. Louis Blues for the last 10, all the while totaling 195.1 point shares. He produced 104.3 point shares on offense and 90.9 via defense.

The well-balanced MacInnis enjoyed his best season with Calgary in 1990-91. That year, oddly one season after MacInnis and the Flames won the Cup, the 27-year-old finished with 14.1 point shares, 28 goals and 103 points. He came in second for the Norris Trophy, but did much more in years before and after that.

MacInnis won the 1988-89 Smythe Trophy, the 1998-99 Norris Trophy (when with the Blues) and participated in 12 All-Star games. His 5,157 career shots rank fourth in the NHL all-time. He made it into the Hall in 2007.
