Does Schneider Outlast Brodeur?

Tuesday night, Cory Schneider started his 19th-straight game for the New Jersey Devils (-0.21 nERD), tying the franchise record set by Martin Brodeur in 2001-02; if he starts Friday in Edmonton (and he probably will), it give him the record.

So far this year, Schneider has been mediocre. His record sits at 8-7-2, and he holds a 2.71 goals against average and .910 save percentage. What is interesting is his home/road splits.

This is important because the Devils are about to play six of their next seven games away from New Jersey in the next 14 days. This stretch includes back-to-back games in Alberta against the Oilers (-0.82) and Flames (-0.02) as well as playing the Red Wings (0.03) and Islanders (-0.02) back-to-back in late November.

While coach Peter DeBoer is surely to give Schneider at least one night of during this stretch, a fantasy hockey owner may want to tread carefully and sit him more often if you have three netminders that night and need to make a decision.

If you don't own Schneider, perhaps now is the time to plant a seed and start working on a trade; after this stretch the Devils will have played 17 road games out of their 25 matches on the road. They'll be due to play much more at home in Newark for the remainder of the season.
