NHL Daily Fantasy Helper: Tuesday 10/23/18

A good chunk of you probably already play daily fantasy football, and I'd be willing to bet a significant portion have also tried out daily fantasy basketball and baseball. But hockey? Hockey?

It's time to give it a try over on FanDuel, because it's a ton of fun. And our analysis and projections can help you win.

To help, let's take a look at some goalies, high-priced skaters, and lower-priced players to target for today's slate.

Goalie to Target

Corey Crawford ($7,700): Even as 1.5-goal favorites, the Chicago Blackhawks still present some risk in goal on Tuesday. These two teams are both capable of getting cratered in possession and can give up 30 shots in a period, both having allowed top-five numbers in shots against per game. These teams may not be as inept as the Tampa Bay Lightning on that end, but defensively they are quite vulnerable. Crawford's price is not indicative of his form so far in his return though. As far as cash plays, Ben Bishop for Dallas could be looking quite good at $8,700. His ownership rate should climb into the double digits. Watch for Sergei Bobrovsky at $8,800 as he could be a cash or tournament play due to the Arizona Coyotes' increased shot volume.

High-Priced Skaters

Filip Forsberg ($7,700): The Nashville Predators' forwards enjoy a nice matchup against San Jose, while the Preds are at home and on a five-game winning streak. Forsberg should not be quite as high-owned due to some other high-powered teams on the slate like the Dallas Stars and the potential for a shootout in Edmonton Oilers. Forsberg keeps creating several High-Danger opportunities every game. There are better stacking options out there but Forsberg as a one-off is a strong play. Other potentially high-owned wingers include Jamie Benn and David Pastrnak.

Evgeni Malkin ($8,700): Malkin presents an excellent choice as he already has shown an ability to do well against loose and fast teams (like the Toronto Maple Leafs). The Pittsburgh Penguins forward should be highly owned (above 12% in most every format), but a player like Kris Letang may not be, adding to the stacking appeal here. Malkin fired off more than 45 FanDuel points against the Maple Leafs on Saturday and accounted for three real-world points (only missing a hat-trick by hitting the post). The Oilers yield 3.17 goals per game on the season and cannot get out of their own way defensively. This game has double center stack potential with Sidney Crosby and contrarian potential with a game stack because of Connor McDavid alone. Edmonton has some cheaper players on the wings, but make sure they are paired with McDavid first before choosing them tonight.

Value Skaters

Mikkel Boedker ($3,700): Boedker will again play on the top line for the Ottawa Senators, and he has been averaging 15-plus minutes of ice time lately. The forward has six points in seven contests this year. Boedker is usually more of a high-floor than a high-ceiling option, likely to see around three shots in any given contest. Another inexpensive winger option could be Alex Iafallo ($3,800), who has points in three straight games for the Los Angeles Kings.

Neal Pionk ($3,900): Pionk is excellent at creating chances despite his team's scheme in front of him but is also a risk because of his penchant for turnovers. His floor is very solid (13 shots and blocks on the year). His shot is pretty good, and there is the possibility of more man-advantage time. Tuesday night carries a ton of danger but a good deal of value intrigue. Again, the New York Rangers are playing a Florida Panthers that will likely allow 30+ shots and as many scoring chances as the Rangers. Even Markus Nutivaara ($3,700) of Columbus carries some value as a third pairing defenseman. As always, watch for late injury news and last-minute line shifts for potential high-value options. Shifts are expected by morning skate in most cases. This is especially true as far as the center and goalie positions when it comes down to plus plays at lower prices.
