NHL Daily Fantasy Helper: Monday 1/21/19

Who can you trust on Monday's four-game NHL slate?

A good chunk of you played daily fantasy football this year, and I'd be willing to bet a significant portion have also tried out daily fantasy basketball and baseball. But hockey? Hockey?

It's time to give it a try over on FanDuel, because it's a ton of fun. And our analysis and projections can help you win.

To help, let's take a look at some goalies, high-priced skaters, and lower-priced players to target for today's slate.

Goalie to Target

Roberto Luongo ($7,500): The Florida Panthers may start Luongo on Monday night against the San Jose Sharks. The risk is still high here, as goals could be plentiful (both teams have given up more than 3.4 goals per game in their last five contests). Luongo looked composed against the Toronto Maple Leafs, stopping 20 of 21 shots on Friday. He appeared rested and that bodes well for the Monday matchup against a San Jose team that plays well on the road, firing 32 shots per 60 minutes and averaging 3.36 goals per game. Marc-Andre Fleury ($9,300) could be a good cash play for the Vegas Golden Knights. Other confirmations will have to wait until morning skates take place.

High-Priced Skaters

Nathan MacKinnon ($8,600): MacKinnon is the only high-priced option among centers as he is above $7,000. However, he has returned to his consistent ways, topping 20 FanDuel points in each of his last two starts. Nashville has struggled a bit of late as well. They have yielded 21 goals in their last five games and suddenly the penalty kill and 5-on-5 play have fallen apart. The Colorado Avalanche score at a clip of 3.43 goals per game at home with a power play that clicks at 25.4% (27% at home). One other option may just be William Karlsson ($6,600), who snapped a long point drought with a goal and assist over the weekend.

Zach Parise ($7,100): Parise is a safe, tournament choice on Monday against Vegas. He has six straight double-digit performances on FanDuel and has 25 shots on goal in his previous four starts. That floor is hard to argue, and he often plays against a team's bottom six and depth pairings. Parise sees significant power play time, so opportunities could arise there as well. The Minnesota Wild winger has 42 real-world points in 47 games including 22 goals. He averages over three shots a game still and generates 2.5 scoring chances per contest. Viktor Arvidsson ($7,600) has ten goals in his last 11 games for Nashville and has a plus matchup against a Colorado defense which has given up 3.67 goals per game over their last six.

Value Skaters

Henrik Borgstrom ($3,600): Borgstrom comes with some risk for Florida, but he has a plus matchup against San Jose. Points could be had from anyone. He fired 19 shots in his previous six games, which has increased his floor. Florida is giving him a mostly middle-six role with minimal power play time. San Jose's defense has been vulnerable without Erik Karlsson in the lineup. Florida is third in the league in shots on goal with 33.7 shots per 60 minutes. Borgstrom comes in at a reasonable price and can hit value from several points of attack. Victor Rask ($3,500) is an extremely risky play as his only value right now is assists -- he has two in his last two starts.

Colton Sissons ($3,900): Sissons plays on the middle-six for Nashville and should play against Colorado's bottom pair of defensemen most of the afternoon. He logged over 58 minutes of ice time in the last three games, including seeing a ton of special teams time on Saturday (22 minutes of ice time overall). Sissons has finished at or above value in six of his last seven starts. Some other intriguing options that could be in play on Monday include Matt Calvert ($3,600), who has points in two of his previous three games, or Pontus Aberg ($3,200), who has eight shots and six scoring chances in his first three games with Minnesota.
