NHL Daily Fantasy Helper: Tuesday 1/22/19

Craig Anderson should see a lot of shots Tuesday against the Coyotes. Who else can you have confidence in rostering in DFS?

A good chunk of you played daily fantasy football this year, and I'd be willing to bet a significant portion have also tried out daily fantasy basketball and baseball. But hockey? Hockey?

It's time to give it a try over on FanDuel, because it's a ton of fun. And our analysis and projections can help you win.

To help, let's take a look at some goalies, high-priced skaters, and lower-priced players to target for today's slate.

Goalie to Target

Craig Anderson ($7,500): The Ottawa Senators will start Anderson on Tuesday night at home against the Arizona Coyotes. Though the Coyotes average just 30.6 shots per game (21st in the league), Ottawa allows an average of 36.7 shots per contest (31st in the league). The one good thing on the Arizona side is that they average just 2.64 goals per night, which is fourth worst in the NHL. Anderson likely will be the one of the cheapest goalies on the night and the most likely to face 30+ shots. Wait until morning skate for other confirmations to come in. See who starts for Calgary, as their price may be reasonable enough given what should be a high volume of shots.

High-Priced Skaters

Jonathan Toews ($7,500): Toews playing with Patrick Kane immediately elevates his status on this five-game slate. The results on Sunday against Washington were immediate with a hat trick and two assists on six shots. It was the scoring chances and instant chemistry that caught most people's eyes. Though a matchup with the New York Islanders is risky, Chicago plays zero defense and almost all offense. The over has hit in a staggering seven straight Blackhawks games. Sean Monahan ($8,100) and Connor McDavid ($9,100) are expected to be highly owned but also have the best projections for FanDuel points among centers.

John Gaudreau ($8,800): Gaudreau keeps rolling as the winger is now on an 11-game point streak (22 real-world points in that span). He has fired 4+ shots in six of those games and 3+ in eight. Carolina yields 3.22 goals per game on the road combined with just a 77.5% road penalty kill. Calgary converts one out of every four power play opportunities at home. There are a few game stack options just from this tilt so Carolina will be looked at along with a potential Calgary power play stack. Among other wingers on the slate, Patrick Kane ($9,000) at home is a great play. Furthermore, Leon Draisaitl ($7,000) could be a sneaky tournament choice on Tuesday night against Detroit.

Value Skaters

Lucas Wallmark ($3,500): Wallmark is the ultimate all or nothing play on Tuesday night. Calgary allows 3.32 goals per game at home and has just a 78.8% penalty kill. They also take 9.2 penalty minutes per night (10th-worst in the league). The second line center has topped 16 FanDuel points in two of his last four games. However, the danger is that the other two games featured zeroes. The price is right to take a punt but will one take a doughnut? Other options include Derek Ryan ($3,400) and Nick Cousins ($3,400), as both will see around 15 minutes a night of ice time and maybe a little time on the man advantage.

Vincent Hinostroza ($3,600): Hinostroza seeing some top-six ice time is significant given his ability to just flat out skate and generate chances. He had a goal, four shots on net, and three scoring chances against the Toronto Maple Leafs over the weekend. Ottawa is another team that gives up an inordinately high amount of high danger chances per 60 (second worst in the NHL at 11.9 per 60). Only Chicago is worse in that category. This is a spot to use Hinostroza and other Arizona players who will be cheaply priced. Among other plays, Jesse Puljujarvi ($3,700) is another all or nothing choice on Tuesday, especially if he plays with Connor McDavid. And finally, Brady Tkachuk ($4,000) has performed consistently at or above value in his last five starts (9.6 FanDuel points or more in each).
