NHL Daily Fantasy Helper: Wednesday 1/8/20
A good chunk of you played daily fantasy football this year, and I'd be willing to bet a significant portion of you have also tried out daily fantasy basketball and baseball. But hockey? Hockey?
It's time to give it a try over on FanDuel because it's a ton of fun.
Our analysis and projections can help you win. To help, let's take a look at some goalies, high-priced skaters, and lower-priced players to target for today's slate.
Goalie to Target
Ben Bishop ($8,800): The Dallas Stars goalie is expected to start on Wednesday night in Los Angeles. When one examines the three-game slate, this may be the safest pick against a Kings team which generates 33.6 shots on goal per game (5th in the NHL). What surprises many is that Dallas allows 31.8 shots a night. The Kings suffer from the league's worst shooting percentage at 7.6%. It is a matchup that sets up well for Bishop as well as Dallas. Frederik Andersen ($8,500) from Toronto could save 35+ shots from Winnipeg tonight.
High-Priced Skaters
Auston Matthews ($8,800): The center has rolled off five straight games with points and at least four shots on net in each of them. This includes a recent game versus Winnipeg where he had four shots on net, three scoring chances, an assist, and a blocked shot. Matthews has five goals and four assists in this latest run and shows little signs of slowing down. Winnipeg has yielded 19 goals in their previous five contests. The steady play of Matthews has warranted his price increase and the main reason why he tops this slate among centers. Mark Scheifele ($7,700) from Winnipeg is an alternative and has seven of his 20 goals on the man advantage.
Alex Ovechkin ($8,500): Ovechkin might have heard us loud and clear on Tuesday as he scorched Ottawa for two goals on six shots. He rang one off the pipe in the third period as well. The left-winger looked much better overall and even got a few scoring chances off the rush. Tonight is a rivalry game versus Philadelphia which typically brings out the best in the Russian machine. His price remained steady which keeps him a solid play given the short slate on Wednesday night. Kyle Connor ($6,600) had two points and five shots against Toronto in their last clash.
Value Skaters
Pierre Engvall ($4,000): Engvall is on some kind of roll for the Maple Leafs. He has 12 points in 22 games on the season and keeps seeing gradual increases in his ice time. Engvall played a season-high 16:11 the other night and responded with a goal and an assist on three shots. Also, the winger is on a three-game goal-scoring streak. The short slate presents fewer choices but Andrew Copp ($3,700) remains one and scored in his first game back from injury on Monday night in Montreal.
Radko Gudas ($3,600): Gudas goes up against his former team tonight and comes off two straight games with a point. His floor may not be as high as it once was but the defensemen tends to get up for these divisional games. He was a presence last night in Carolina scoring a goal, delivering several hits, and even a couple scoring chances. Expect more of the same tonight and at a punt play price. Travis Sanheim ($3,600) is a decent value choice from the Flyers' blueline for Wednesday.
