Hockey is officially back! NHL DFS is similar to MLB in terms of how you build lineups, how you view stacking, and how to value players.
Two main points to always focus on in NHL DFS are what lines the players are on and making sure the goalies you are rostering are confirmed as the starters. Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com or DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team, along with which goalies are confirmed as the starters.
Let's jump in to take a look at today's slate and some players to consider for your lineups.
Goalie to Target
Juuse Saros ($7,300): Saros is expected to get the start tonight since the Nashville Predators are on the second night of a back-to-back and had Pekka Rinne in net last night. This should make Saros one of the chalkiest options on the entire slate due to his very affordable salary and the fact the Predators are the largest (-180) home favorites on the slate.
They are taking on the Chicago Blackhawks, who are one of the worst teams in the league and are worth attacking anytime they are in action. Chicago comes into this game with the sixth-worst (1.79) Goals For Per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations. They don't pose too much of an offensive threat, and it should put Saros in a spot for the win.
High-Priced Skaters
Brock Boeser ($6,900): The Vancouver Canucks come in with a 3.56 implied goal total, which is the second-highest on the slate. We should see them as one of the chalk teams on the slate, but that's because their matchup is so favorable. They are up against the Ottawa Senators, who are last in the league (3.87) in Goals Against Per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations. Ottawa is also allowing a 59.21 Corsi Against (Shot Attempts Allowed) per 60 minutes five-on-five situations, which is the fifth-worst in the league.
This should put Boeser, who skates on the second forward line and first power-play, in an amazing spot to pile up the fantasy points tonight.
Brady Tkachuk ($6,300): Tkachuk and the Senators are +136 road underdogs and have a 2.94 implied goal total, but they still have plenty of options for DFS. The Canucks are looking bad on defense this season, and you should look to attack them in this matchup or look to do a game stack. Vancouver is right behind Ottawa with 3.59 Goals Against per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations.
Tkachuk is averaging four shots on goal per game to start the season, and with his time on the first forward line and first power-play, he should plenty of opportunities to continue that trend.
Value Skaters
Drake Batherson ($3,800): Batherson is skating on the top line and top power-play for the Senators alongside Brady Tkachuk. They are a solid stack to look towards tonight that shouldn't be as popular as the top options from Nashville or Vancouver. Batherson has piled up 18 shots, 3 assists, and no goals through six games this season. Is tonight the night he finds the back of the net?
Connor Murphy ($4,200): Murphy has been bumped up to the second power-play unit since Blackhawks' defender, Adam Boqvist, was placed on the health and safety protocol list. This gives him an immediate boost to his potential ceiling of points, which is always wanted from a value player. On top of that, he already has a super solid floor of points with 13 shots and 14 blocked shots through seven games.
