Hockey is officially back! NHL DFS is similar to MLB in terms of how you build lineups, how you view stacking, and how to value players.
Two main points to always focus on in NHL DFS are what lines the players are on and making sure the goalies you are rostering are confirmed as the starters. Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com or DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team, along with which goalies are confirmed as the starters.
Let's jump in to take a look at today's slate and some players to consider for your lineups.
Goalie to Target
Tuukka Rask ($8,400): The Boston Bruins are massive -174 road favorites against the New York Rangers tonight, and you should be looking to Rask in net. There are only two games on tonight's slate, and the Toronto Maple Leafs at Montreal Canadiens game has both teams sitting at -108. It's a legitimate coin-flip situation compared to the Bruins, who are huge favorites. This makes Rask the safest option by far and likely to be the most popular goalie on the slate.
Rask is confirmed as the starter tonight and gets to face a Rangers team who sits with the 11th-lowest (51.91) Corsi For (Shot Attempts Created) per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations this season. This means that Rask won't be under too much pressure tonight and should be able to come away with an easy victory. He is expensive, but the safety he brings compared to the other goalies on this slate is legitimately unmatched.
High-Priced Skaters
David Pastrnak ($8,600): Pastrnak is the second-most expensive skater on the entire slate but is well worth paying up for tonight. He has started the season on fire with 8 real points through four games and a very solid 22 shots on goal. Those stats should only continue to grow tonight against the Rangers, who are in the bottom half of the league in both Corsi Against (Shot Attempts Allowed) and goals allowed, both per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations.
With Pastrnak's role on the first forward line and the first power-play unit, he should be a fantastic option in all formats tonight. Look to stack him with Brad Marchand ($7,900) and Patrice Bergeron ($8,100).
Mitchell Marner ($8,100): Marner has an eight-game point streak in the works right now, and it shouldn't be slowing down against the Montreal Canadiens tonight. The over/under is set at 6.5 goals, as both teams are in the top half of the league in Corsi For and both are top seven in goals scored per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations. To say this game is primed for an offensive explosion on both sides would be putting it lightly.
In fact, there is little doubt that this will be the more popular game to stack tonight, so just be ready to eat some chalk here. Marner skates alongside Auston Matthews ($8,700) on the first forward line and the first power-play unit. Let me put it like this: a Marner-Matthews stack is like an Aaron Rodgers-to-Davante Adams stack on a two-game slate. You shouldn't be passing them up.
Value Skaters
Ilya Mikheyev ($3,300): The Toronto Maple Leafs have a solid 3.25 implied goal total tonight, and if you are looking to get exposure to their offense on the cheaper side of things, consider Mikheyev. He is now on the second forward line and second power-play unit with John Tavares ($7,100) and William Nylander ($6,400). This is one of the few lines on tonight's slate that have 100% ice-time correlation between the forward line and power-play unit.
Ryan Strome ($4,900): Going to Strome and a Rangers second forward line stack would certainly be a contrarian way to approach tonight's slate. The Rangers are the biggest underdog in action, but you can consider pairing Strome with Artemi Panarin ($7,700) and Kaapo Kakko ($3,700). Strome has managed five points in his last five games, which has helped him post 11.2 FanDuel points or more in four of the five games.
