3 NHL FanDuel Studs to Target on Friday 1/28/22
Spending up in any daily fantasy lineup is how to get the superstars and the highest upside players in your lineup.
In NHL DFS, it’s different from spending up in sports like NBA or NFL. Someone can be one of the highest salaried players at his position and put up a total dud of a performance, and paying that much for him would be a huge mistake. Let’s make sure we are spending salary in the right spots when building our lineups tonight.
Friday night features five games on the schedule. Here are a few studs.
Roope Hintz, Center, Dallas Stars
FanDuel Salary: $7,900
The Dallas Stars center is on fire right now with 20-plus FanDuel points in five consecutive games. That includes goals in four straight games and 24 shots on goal in that span.
Gone are the days when Roope Hintz was a perpetual game-time decision. Now, on Friday night, he plays the Washington Capitals projected for a top role. Washington has struggled of late and just gave up four goals at home to the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday.
Hintz has a bit of a physical edge to his game along with his, at times, blinding speed. The center has 19 goals and 17 assists in 38 games. Guess who else is coming along for the ride in a possible mini-stack? Joe Pavelski ($8,400). Pavelski, at 37, has 48 real-world points in 40 games, too.
The Stars have some lower-salaried pieces that can also be added for a "contrarian" stack to get some relief from the cap.
Alex Ovechkin, Wing, Washington Capitals
FanDuel Salary: $10,000
The Washington Capitals' winger has been a bit unlucky of late.
He had eight shots on goal Wednesday against San Jose and hit a post and a crossbar as well. Ovechkin had ten scoring chances by himself in that one.
After that, the feeling is that the left-winger is due for goal number 30 -- and maybe more -- on Friday night.
Dallas is a fun team to play against on the road. They tend to trade chances at times with their top-six.
Ovechkin has five goals and an assist in his last seven games with 35 shots and 40 scoring chances.
Look out for the battle in Dallas; this could be a game with fun stacking potential.
Kris Letang, Defenseman, Pittsburgh Penguins
FanDuel Salary: $7,400
The temptation to use one of the top two Colorado Avalanche defensemen is definitely there, but Kris Letang has a very nice matchup against the Detroit Red Wings.
For starters, Pittsburgh has to be ticked after blowing a lead at home to the Seattle Kraken of all teams.
While the defenseman does not score a lot of goals (just five on the season), he has 33 assists to pad his point total. Letang has real-world points in six of his previous seven games.
With the Avs' defensive duo on the slate, Letang should be a bit less popular on Friday night than usual.
