5 NHL FanDuel Value Plays to Target on Friday 4/29/22
Spending lower in any daily fantasy lineup is a way to incorporate some diversity into your roster. In NHL DFS, there is typically more value in this strategy but also a good deal more risk. This is especially true on tonight's slate, where there are lots of lower-salaried plays. Plugging in these options will afford you more chances to play some studs, as well.
With a crazy 15 games on Friday night, we go out with a bang before the playoffs start on Monday.
Again, please note that there will be teams resting players. It is why there is only a value column for tonight.
Ryan Poehling, Center, Montreal Canadiens
FanDuel Salary: $3,800
The Montreal Canadiens have clinched the worst record in the NHL. Meanwhile, the Florida Panthers are resting quite a few players.
It would appear that this benefits Ryan Poehling, who has looked better of late. He had a goal on six shots on Wednesday versus the New York Rangers.
The Montreal pivot is struggling to find a full-time job in the league, but four goals in his last seven games does offer some upside.
Furthermore, Poehling has four or more shots in three of those contests and eight blocked shots over the span.
This could be one of those total gambles on Friday that pays off.
Michael Rasmussen, Wing, Detroit Red Wings
FanDuel Salary: $3,600
Thanks to the New Jersey Devils not being rested, even Detroit Red Wings forwards are in play now this Friday night.
He may not be the most obvious choice, but Michael Rasmussen is getting top-six minutes and even some power-play time for Detroit.
Rasmussen has two goals in his last four games and can block some shots, which adds to his floor. Those 12 shots, 15 scoring chances, and 7 blocked shots over the past four games have drawn considerable notice.
With New Jersey just allowing six goals to a Carolina team resting talent, that bodes well for Detroit forwards on Friday.
One alternative could be Mike Hoffman from Montreal, who is still just $4,000.
Barclay Goodrow, Wing, New York Rangers
FanDuel Salary: $3,500
The confidence of Barclay Goodrow got a boost on Wednesday when he saw time on the New York Rangers' top line.
The Rangers' forward had two assists with one coming short-handed. Quietly, Goodrow has put together a solid stretch of late with seven assists in his previous seven contests.
That is where Goodrow's value lies. His floor is pretty low. He has 8 shots, 10 scoring chances, and 4 blocked shots during this span.
The Rangers play a Washington Capitals team that looked completely checked out against the New York Islanders on Thursday.
Ville Heinola, Defenseman, Winnipeg Jets
FanDuel Salary: $4,000
One of the stranger games may just be Calgary and Winnipeg tonight. Yes, Winnipeg has one more game after this, but Ville Heinola is playing better of late.
As the Jets play out the string, Heinola could be a silver lining of sorts for next year. He has 9.6 or more FanDuel points in six of his last seven games. That is decent value at least.
Yet, the Winnipeg defender is finally seeing more ice time (18-plus minutes per game) over the past three starts. The 14 shots and 5 blocked shots are a decent floor given his role was less just a week or two ago.
Expect Heinola to be in that 17-18 minute range again on Friday against a Calgary team thinking of "second season hockey."
Alex Nedeljkovic, Goalie, Detroit Red Wings
FanDuel Salary: $6,600
So, this crazy idea worked once with Alex Nedeljkovic in Newark against New Jersey. Could this work one more time?
The Detroit goaltender comes off a solid performance against Toronto where he allowed 3 goals on 36 shots. He did not get the win but still netted 12 FanDuel points. That is not too bad.
Yes, New Jersey is awful and not rested. Furthermore, some Devils players are still battling a nasty stomach bug that has made the rounds on the team.
Most still will look at Anton Forsberg ($7,000) or even whoever starts in Montreal. However, give the Detroit goalie a chance.
