Ivan Nova, SP, Pittsburgh Pirates

There's no question Ivan Nova has revitalized his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 2017, he has a 2.83 ERA with a combination of strong ground-ball skills (50.2% rate), and a minuscule walk rate (1.8%).

However, as we get deeper into the season, Nova is getting fewer and fewer punchouts. In May he has a 10.2% strikeout rate, dropping his season rate to 13.2%, his lowest rate since 2014. A 7.1% swinging-strike rate doesn't indicate we can hope for a sudden spike, either.

Despite a matchup against the Arizona Diamondbacks, who strike out to righties 23.4% of the time, Nova is unlikely to take advantage.

He also has a 4.11 SIERA, which suggests possible ERA regression.

Until he shows at least league average whiff prowess again, Nova won't be DFS material.
