The stark difference between Fernando Romero's 1.88 ERA and 3.21 fielding independent pitching (FIP) has box-score watchers reluctant to christen him among the cream of the exciting rookie pitching crop, leaving him somewhat available for streamers in what figures to be a fruitful Week 9 matchup.

Sure, the Royals have shown the kind of plate discipline (18.4% team-wide strikeouts) that could tax Romero's suspicious 11.2% walk rate and below-average 26.8% reach rate. Even so, Kansas City is unlikely to make Romero pay for his free passes, with the team posting a lean .117 group isolated slugging on the season. However light Romero is on strikeout upside here, he remains a worthy source of ratio help, with a good shot at a win and quality start.
