3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Players to Avoid on 5/25/18
Reynaldo Lopez, SP, Chicago White Sox
FanDuel Price: $6,400
One of the biggest complaints about baseball is that the season is too long. With 162 games, it's hard to feel that any individual game really matters. However, the reason that baseball season is so long is because even two months into the season we still have a relatively small sample on players. Reynaldo Lopez is a prime example of that.
One could simply look at Lopez's 2.98 ERA and assume he is an ace pitcher. However, his peripherals indicate something far worse than that, and as Lopez pitches throughout the course of the season he will likely find his ERA balloon unless he starts to pitch better. By allowing a 49.1% fly-ball rate and 31.5% hard-hit rate, Lopez's SIERA is at 5.14. It was at 5.44 in 2017, so it's not like we are dealing with an entirely different Lopez, which tells us he's just lucky to have a sub-3.00 ERA.
Moreover, the Detroit Tigers rank top-10 in hard-hit rate against right-handed pitching, and also bottom-10 in strikeout rate. They are not as easy a matchup as their 21-28 record would indicate.
