Sell Tanner Roark

There's always a danger in rostering a starting pitcher who doesn't get a lot of strikeouts. When they're getting grounders and initiating weak contact, they're fine. But when their pitches don't go exactly where they want them to go, they have a tendency to give up some hard-hit balls and get knocked around.

Such is the case with Nationals starter Tanner Roark, who you probably have given up on already this season. He's 3-12 with a 4.87 ERA, 4.50 FIP and 4.49 xFIP that tells you all you need to know about whether or not he's been cursed by bad luck. He's striking out only 19.7% of hitters this season, down from 21.4% last year. That's not a good sign when strikeouts are through the roof around baseball.

Over the last two seasons, Roark won 16 and 13 games for a very good Nationals team and had ERAs of 2.83 and 4.67. We're seeing that last year's ERA was more indicative of Roark's abilities, and it's unlikely a big turnaround is coming for the right-hander in the second half.
