This could be Matt Shoemaker’s most important start of 2015. Jered Weaver could return to the starting rotation as soon as this weekend if there isn’t a need for a rehab start. Shoemaker has to do well in his home start against the Twins this week or his 2014 season breakout could be seen as a fluke. I think he does (his SIERA is 3.88 even though his ERA is 4.85).

Minnesota has had their fair share of troubles hitting away from Target Field. Their .226 average and .283 OBP are second worst in baseball ahead of only Seattle, their .642 OPS is better than only the Mets, and their redeeming stat, slugging, is fifth worst in the Majors. Minnesota’s 48.2 at-bats per home run is fourth worst in baseball. Take one last chance on Shoemaker.
