5 Daily Fantasy Baseball Studs to Target on 5/9/16
Jose Fernandez, P, Miami Marlins
FanDuel Price: $10,800
We featured Jose Fernandez in this column last week, but he disappointed in that outing. While he did strike out seven batters, he was able to pitch only five innings. He gave up one home run, three earned runs, and six hits without being able to notch a win. It shows how dominant Fernandez is when we consider 12.60 strikeouts per nine innings in a game a "disappointment."
Coming into tonight’s contest against the Brewers, Fernandez has maintained an MLB career-high 12.56 strikeouts per nine innings rate. It’s unlikely we see a huge dip in that number, as the Brewers are ranked 27th in strikeout rate versus right-handed pitching (24.8 percent).
It will also be tough for Milwaukee to do damage via the long ball, as just 31 percent of their balls in play versus righties are fly balls.
The one concern for Fernandez, however, is his inability to go deep into games so far this year. He hasn’t pitched more than six innings in any one game, mostly due to his walk rate of 4.29 per nine innings.
But with his high strikeout upside and as a -230 Vegas favorite, Fernandez is the top pitching option on the board.
